I can’t argue Nas and Black Thought… its like arguing titties and asses… they are both favorites of mine so imma be all over the place.
But rappers are in it to make money…bottom line…. just like any other entertainer. So just like any profession, there has to be some type of compromise is you wanna get paid. I don’t like getting to work at 530 or 6am every morning but I gotta do it to get paid. I wish Black Thought would compromise and give me that solo album he been promising for years just like I wish Nas would comprimise and do a crossover song.
ain’t nothing wrong with switching record labels but you have to remember that the Roots went to Def Jam after Jay Z got there and it just didn’t look right. Ask Janet Jackson what her move did for her. I thought it would comprimise their material. And just for the record… I’ve liked every Roots album as compared to the 2 or so I didn’t care for from Nas.

Well people thought they sold out until their material came out and it showed that even Def jam couldn’t get them to sellout. Def jam is a ver big major and when you sell 200K albums, they usually compromise your sound to sell records. Niggas getting dropped all the time nowadays if they don’t sell. But obviously, Def Jam gave them more control than we thought and they still managed to put the same type of sound out with out worrying about sales.
