but then we need to talk about what “our agenda” is…I am very wary of letting anybody tell me “how all black folk feel” or “what all black folk should do now” because we are NOT a monolith, and I think that the activists and supposed black “leaders” sometimes forget that.
Class, age, economics play a large part in our perspectives, and although we might feel a certain connection with folks based on our skin, we have so many other variables that anybody who doesn’t conform or branch out is called on the carpet and told they need to conform in order to retain their “black” card, and I feel that is what Obama is experiencing in that case.

i AM happy that him being in the race has gotten (what appears to me anyway) more black involved in the discussion. i dont care who you vote for- but get involved- taht above all else is what is going to bring about the change- not one person and one office BUT EVERYONE taking an active role in knowing whats going on, holding people accountable and getting away from the head in the sand mentality alot of americans have towards politics.

The biggest issue with this fucking government is the political divide. Its always gonna be black vs white and rich vs poor no matter how obvious the problems are. I mean honestly, how can anybody vote against any kind of universal health care plan but go gung ho for a fucking war. It just makes no fucking sense to me. You have lobbyists and big companies supporting who they want to according to money with no regard of the rest of the population. I don’t think there has ever been a president whose been elected with the common interests of the american people. For 100 years slavery was abolished but somehow, someway, parts of the country found a way to instill their own form of slavery ( jim crow, segregation). How many presidents served during this time ? How many presidents have served since crack hit ? How about AIDS ? How about the sorry ass education system in this fucking country. We shit on Fidel for his “atrocities” but he has the healthiest and most educated nation in the world. We blame Fidel for how poor Cuba was but what the fuck did we do to lift trade embargo since he’s been there.
