SOHH Over It!

Ahh…now you’re just wildin out, son. UPDATED…

October 10, 2007 naj

Lupe…

You think if he took those glasses off he could have gotten one of the most recognizable verses in hip hop history right?

I don’t know. On one hand, I can see why you are defensive. Sometimes the hip-hop “purists” can be a bit overzealous with their love for pure hip hop.

***BTW, what the fuck is “pure hip hop?” Do beats and rhymes go through some desalnization plant and only the purest shit come out to be bottled for the masses? Talib Kweli is hip hop but so is Soulja Boy (the next nigga that says he wasn’t rhyming about sneakers and broads at 16, I’m cockin’ on his bitch ass)

But I think what you fail to realize is that WE KNOW people fuck up lyrics all the time on stage. WE UNDERSTAND you weren’t necessarily the biggest ATCQ fan, and WE ACCEPT the fact you didn’t own Midnight Marauders. The arrogance is what kills me (and a lot of other level minded folks) who’s willing to say, “aw my nigga Lupe fucked up.”

The arrogance to not take responsibilty for your fuck up…

I’m not saying niggas should bow at the feet of Fife, Tip, and Ali (and that fourth nigga we never talk about), but please understand that hip-hop in the early 90’s consisted mostly of Gangsta shit, and pop shit…Tribe and the whole Native Tongue fam created a lane where some regular niggas can rap about shit on their mind without it killing like 3 niggas a verse, or being too commercial (British Knights anyone?). That SAME lane you proudly spits your bars in. So while I get the fact “you didn’t LISTEN” to Tribe, ATCQ is in his DNA…Now you won’t listen to one of the 10 best albums of out generation because it ain’t your shit…

Award Tour? Electric Relaxation? Oh My God?…for real yo?

You and my nigga D. McNabb need to get some type of foot/ mouth removal classes. No. 5 said at some point he didn’t want to be considered “just a black QB…” But you are, that’s what makes you…you, Mr Potato Head. You are the reason some lil dude continues to practice passing drills, so he can be the next “McNabb” or Vince Young.

Now some young kid who just wants to spit some inciteful shit looks up to Lupe, it’s because he sees that he didn’t have to kill hella niggas on a song to get a deal.

In the Vibe.com interview Lupe goes as far as to say:

Lupe aired out his grievances exclusively to VIBE concerning the backlash to the revelation that he missed out on Marauders. “[Tribe] didn’t sell 10 million records, so why would people think they had a blanket on the world like that? MC Hammer was way more popular to me than Tribe Called Quest.”

Clearly, you are wildin out. Sure MC Hammer sold 25 million copies of on album, so his world wide appeal is obvious, but a group like the Roots sell out every show they do as well, and they’ve only gone gold once. Sohh… if we use that same argument you used there, why would you bother to sell records? I mean more folks buy Young Joc than they do you….I’m just saying…

It’s Going Down>Kick Push?

Get it together, homie.

*UPDATE*

So here’s why I don’t fuck w/ Vibe…apparently, the words Lupe used were not a response to the backlash written since the Hip Hop Honors, but taken from an article written a month ago…Lupe called Kay Slay and cleared the shit up

And yes ihadno, Superstar is flames…I was bumpin that shit real tough this summer.

I read somewhere there’s more to this story

    I think not 100percent sure
but I read Kanye was supposed to do it
    but he didn’t show up
and they have to find a replacement which pist everyone off Royal
They asked Lupe figuring he was a back pack rapper and assuming he would know the shit and as you can see this is what happened
I think thats why he’s coming out sayin I don’t listen to Quest and all that other sht

I’m quite sure they wanted Kanye because, that nigga proudly rocks his backpack.

VH1 reached out to Lupe though because they know little about hip hop but enough to know, having one of the game’s most lyrical MCs who might be able to fit into that bubble of performers, would be a good look. People fuck up tributes all the time, the backlash comes from not the fact he didn’t listen to Tribe, but how this nigga treated the whole thing. Someone asks you to do a show, and you fuck up, just say you fucked up and keep it moving, he got more excuses as to why he fucked up and then said essentially them niggas ain’t sell units like that so why should I have known their music…

Agreed he’s actin like a lil bitch about it

it gonna catch up to him tough
you can’t have a backpack fan base and dis tribe called quest
who are the grandfathers of the backpack music
    he thinks they didn’t sell
watch what happens to his next album
not to mention all tribes albums went gold his sold 200k

ok, now i really want to see this.. i’m not understand, why have excuses? i listened to tribe growing up and i dont know if i could get the verse right… no one will murder you if you just admit fault and K.I.M.

thats what kills me about people in general these days- always got an excuse. no one will jsut step up and say ‘yeah i messed up’ its always “what had happened was..” that shit is OLD!

I watched the tribute but i think i was to busy doing the cabbage patch to realizew he even messed up. But thats a terrible ass excuse to claim. cause they wasnt moving across the stage in garbage bag pants (hammer) they wasnt important enough to learn a lyric. And even if u didnt listen to them that hard, whatever happened to downloading the song, and practicing the verse u responsible for.

Maybe he mad Bow Wow got to do Snoop’s set and he’s doing Tribe…

I can even understand his defiance, but where are his people to tell him “fam…you not even on that level to make excuses”

I’m quite sure those other cats who performed were just as busy. But you gotta believe why certain folks attain success and others don’t. When you got the potential to gain more fans and sell more than 300K albums, you do it. If you’re not trying to obtain fans, what’s the purpose of being on a major label anyway…niggas want the cake and eat it too…

He should have just said “I was nervous”, apologized to Tribe since it was really supposed to be about honoring THEM..and then let it go…but talking about Hammer made no sense…

I know all the words to Turn this Mutha Out and everybody was rocking the genie shit back in the day, but on an artistic level, Hammer> Tribe because they sold more albums? Quit playin.

    Shit…

dude must have had several days to prepare…

but aside from that, dude is burying himself with all the talking.

It’s taken me two days to watch the show, and I just saw the end last night and his flub wasn’t even that terrible.

But that nigga WASN’T a Tribe Fan, obviously.

No harm in that. No elitism outta me (this time).

    But it is mind bending.

All the same doe, if I was pickin players for a pick-up basketball game, I wouldn’t chose Lupe knowing that.

    LMAO!

    Niggaz j could be flawless.

The flub wasn’t bad at all…but he ironically used Hammer as an argument when those folks couldn’t get along….

“Did you say Hammer? Proper…rap is not pop, if you call it that then stop…”

But how can he use that argument with record sales when Spice 1 (who he listened to) and 8Ball &MJG both sold modestly?

*presses play on Spice 1 and MC Eiht-Murda Show on my ipod*

    What up homies ??

I’ve been in Hell for the past few days so I am not familiar with what happened…lol. I will prolly catch a rerun but what verse to what song did he fuck up. A mistake is a mistake but if he took it further by saying he didn’t listen to Tribe that makes it worse. He prolly just did it for the check which is a major no no when it comes to a tribute….
