SOHH Over It!

I Will Blame HIPHOP.

July 31, 2007 willyjsimmons

For this…

Hey Bay Bay - Uncut Ratchet Remix Video

feat. Game, Lil Boosie, Baby, E-40, Angie Locc and JADAKISS????????

and…and… that lil (boy, girl, I honestly can’t tell) thing from the original video… the midget.

What kinda shit?

I’ll admit, I’ve caught myself noddin along to this shit on occasion. In the back of my mind thinking ‘This lil nigga is on some bullshit‘.

Are you over 21?

Who’s that midget?

And after watching this video… Are you REALLY running the south off one single?

Bravado, exaggeration all part of HIPHOP. I don’t think I’m getting ‘too old‘ to understand the ‘new shit‘ coming from the youngsters. (Nevermind that most of these rappin niggaz are our age or OLDER) I’m still cool. **ahem**

But on this morning, of all mornings. The odds that I’d run across this video and be a witness to the epitome of bullshit rap.

And to see E-40 and Jadakiss, JADAKISS being involved in this shit…

I know 40 is all about his yaper, and I can respect the hustle. But dooooooog.

And Jada? I am now going to side with Diddy in that whole mess ya’ll had. Yep, just because. You looked better in the shiny suits my nig.

Watch the video and tell me if I’m just buggin.

**I do have some KB in my pocket, but that’s neither here nor there **

**UPDATE**

Melissa Mendez and Mya

Adding Melissa Mendez to the ‘Baby Mama’ File.

**UPDATE II**

Bilal

Bilal!!

I need that *ahem* album!  This pic was taken at some R&B showcase shit… weird…

what the FUCK is Bilal singing at a showcase for… shopping for a new deal…

whatever… release some new shit, please…

**realizes the new Prince is out and feels dirty**  Whoooops…

I know there is bullshit coming from everywhere but the south really take the blame when it comes to this crap thats oout now. It ain’t hate because I was down with the West when they had it because the music was of classic quality (Snoop,Pac,DRE,Dogg Pound,Death Row,Cypress Hill etc) but this bubble gum conveyor belt shit that coming from that region now is kjust god awful. A nigga can’t even get 2 good singles from em out there…

We fail to realize H0W OLD WE ARE NOW!! Just like P said up above she bumping Eric B like it just came out, and damn it so am I! This music thats out now is for the kids. Just like when fucken NWA came out, my mother wasn’t bumpin to that shit! She was like TURN THAT NOISE OFF!!

We’re getitng older. It has NOTHING to do with a specific region.

    I don’t think it’s age either…

For as ‘bullshit’ as NWA could be… they spoke on ‘real’ issues at the same time. At least there was some kind of balance going on. Later albums, it wore thin. Cube left and made even MORE powerful shit, at the same time talkin reckless on certain songs.

    Balance.

Then you can look at Cham (to keep it current)… Balance.

Age has nothing to do with it.

It was underrated because it was a weed plate, but hey, to each his own!

TO ME it IS about age…the younger generation just wants to party…they aren’t looking at music to receive real messages or to empower them, so they say fuck you and your balance.

That is what I mean about it being an age thing. You sound like an oldhead saying that word “balance” ask a young nicca about some fucking balance in music and see what they say…

    **sigh**

Now let us see the list of CDs YOU own…

‘You sound like an oldhead saying that word “balance”’

If young niggaz have no concept of the word ‘balance’…

it has nothing to do with ME.

    Or being ‘old’.

I would hesitate to say our youth are just fuckin stupid…

but maybe that’s the simple answer to this issue.

‘If hiphop was like sports 75 percent a the artist still rappin would be coaching right nah’

There reason the South is putting out the majority of this crappy music is because they the majority of the new artist getting signed. So its inevitable they’re gonna have more wack music coming out.
2nd and this has nothing to do with coastal or regional sht
But Label don’t sign artist no more they sign Rappers who are easier to sell. And since there’s so much money in Ring tones now. Its a huge reason why we have so many gimmicky terrible songs that won’t stand the test of time.

As far as Balance is concerned
theres a sufficient amount of it its just not in the mainstream because major label have a tight squeeze on what gets play’d on the radio.
From what I see is we have a lot of people out there that think based on what they are exposed to. There’s alot of immature minds that aren’t thinking for themselves when its comes Music. Anything thats not in the mainstream is wack to alot of young headz and they’re just rebeling cause they’re convinced they’re being hated on. Ic support a hand full of these new artist but the majority of the ones on the radio are straight trash. Its the underground artist that are making quality music.

    Basically

    technically its smart business
As much is I love artist
its like a painting or a rug
Art is made for people with a certain taste
    those really into the music
Labels aren’t takin chances on artist cause there’s too much financial risk and artists don’t like compromising their music to appeal to a larger audience. Where rappers have no problem doing this.
    Persia right times have changed
No ones really into hip hop anymore
its core audience don’t go the record store anymore
and majors don’t market the music to us anymore
Now its just music people listen to past time
its not the sound of a people anymore
its not the voice of the hood anymore
something the poor and underpriviledged could relate to
    its just music now

Whats funny is the young heads can’t see why these older artists are still around. Its because they’re the last of the artist that still make art. Their fan bases are loyal and have no NEW artist to migrate to cause no one out side a select few is makin art.

See… whenever a NY nigga makes a reference to the south.. yall always put out the same names… Luda,Dre,Pinmp C…
Those are niggas that I totally cosign. In fact, I am mad that the “bullshit” south music gets played more than the real shit. But when you run down a hit list of Chris,Young Joc,D4L,Lil Boosie,Unk,Shop Boys, etc… thats conveyor belt music. Its not like these niggas are coming out with classic albums. Devin the Dude put out an album that was better than any of that other bullshit !!!!
This is the day and age if Ipods and downloads so artist don’t put heavy work into an album. A nuigga will come up with a hood phrase and repeat it over and over again on wax. There isn’t even such thing as real producer anymore becuase niggas can make beats on their cellphones. No matter if you like em or not… Dipset ( I don’t really care for em either) has a body of work 10 albums strong and so dose G-Unit (I only fucks with 50). Which one of them lil wack ass niggas from the south has that ? I can respect dude like Jada gettin on a south track because rappin is that niggas job. He got kids to feed an every track that he turns down is a nother spoon out of his family mouth so Jada has a tottally different motivation for hoppin on a track ( he kills the “wipe me down” remix… a song that has grown on me… i can’t even front).
But you can’t tell me that when you listen to Commons latest album there isn’t a huge contrast on what we call real hip hop ?
I am a hip hop fan so it isn’t about ” a nigga from New York” saying this and that… its an opinion of hip hop from a fan. Its about the quality of music because I wasn’t beefing when the west had their run…they were putting out official shit… you had to co-sign it. They made it impossible not to. But when you can sell 1 million ringtones but can’t sell 200K albums… you gotta admit there is a problem .

But as a nigga who was raised on Kane and Rakim to NWA and BONE Thugs and Scarface and Snoop, how can you expect me to rock with this current shit ? I’m not even 30 yet… I am younger than a lot of niggas putting shit out now but I didn’t start listening to hip hop yesterday. 25 years goes back a long time.
Can yall honestly see yourselves listening to a Yong Joc or UNK album 5 years from now ?
If we ran down the top 20 albums of all time… how many of those albums could we honestly say have come out of the south in the past 4 or 5 years as compared to 10 years ago ???

Plus nowadays you can totally eliminate the middle man. Most Artist are really going the indie route which is hurting larger record companies… Its was a special on CNBC, talking about how now companies are doing contracts and trying to get a peice of the artist tour money to recoup for the record not doing as well as it should. An lets be for real here…dealing with anything what usually gets most of the focus: The negative…Same with hip hop. Common could come out and have the album of the year but the negative(from every region) will get more attention

  46. comment by ihadnochoice :
    July 31, 2007 @ 11:55 am

But the fact that anybody can make an album in their basement have caused record companies to do a doubletake when it comes to developing artist and product. So the lack of good music has dumb down the product. Artist don’t even wanna kick up money to pay for top producers because thier homeboy down the block got “hot beats” for free just hoping to get put on. Just Blaze was selling beats off his website for like $150 last year !!! So albums that used to be filled with music from seasoned veteran producers are now getting filled with basement beats… that has an effect on it also.

because they’re finnally getting their time in the sun
    and they’re the it region
they’re gonna feel like your hatin

I see the BS on every site
if your from the east and your a hip hop fan
if you say anything about these southern acts your gonna be viewed as a hater. The attitude or cop out which is what it really is, is that because your from the east your a hater whose about lyrics and big words and just because it doesn’t have a east coast sound don’t mean it ain’t hot. That shts annoying. I got love for all coast I know quality, skill and content when I hear it. Trying to get some of these heads on that regional BS to open their minds to that and admit its bad music is harder than pulling teeth. They feel compelled to support bullsht jus because its from their region and use that mentality to say the east ain’t selling cause we hate on our own artist. Rather than see that the perspective of quality is bound to content and not coast.

I think some of the ‘hardest’ shit was sometimes the simplest.

Early TRU albums… very simple production.

Early UGK albums… standard ’sample based’ beats.

Not complicated stuff. But effective for what it was.

It’s the MC’s job to take a ’simple’ track, and MAKE it classic.

I think the opposite side is the problem…

The ‘I need X amount of guest spots, and X amount of Timbaland/Swiss/Blaze tracks’ that has us in trouble.

You don’t have to put much effort into your own skillz when you can ‘outsource’ an entire album and only end up with 10 ghostwritten verses of your own…

I also think ghostwriting should be damn illegal.

  49. comment by ihadnochoice :

I also understand that hip hop is a young mans game. The cool and bravado factor in hip hop is hard to hold onto when you are 30+ and you can’t hold on to those thug, money and sex type of stereotypes that keeps people interested so I don’t expect dudes that been putting albums out since the early 90’s to be relevant now. But wack shit is wack shit no matter how you slice it. Its one thing if you 15 years old and you making music for 15 year olds. But I gotta call you out if you 25 and still making music for 15 year olds.

Don’t BLAME the south though for putting out all this wack music, blame the Recording companies for PUTTING THESE BULLSHIT ARTISTS ON!!

You know how many unknown NYC rappers there are that could be put on now that would be wack as a fuck?? My point is that Record Companies are capatilizing on a certain “sound” right now, not the other way around.

There are PLENTY of good artists from the south that you never hear of, and once again REAL NICCAS from the south are not snapping and leaning and all that…

    Its for the kiddies…

We don’t live in the gutter, grimey age of rap anymore where people are hungry…all these niccas wanna do is sign a record deal and get the free chain that comes along with it…they are NOT interested in making classic music…

I am pretty sure the underground scene in the south is as strong as the underground scene up here.. Thats not the issue though. Its about what is getting out there and being co-signed. And the worse thing about all this is the overall lack of originality. I can’t tell the difference between lil boosie and hurricane chris…
I can swear that Walk it Out and 2 step were the same song. Dudes like the shop boys are here and gone in 4 months.

And dudes like MIMS, from up here, fall into the same niche.

Swizz is an animal with it…
He and Kanye were at Summer Jam and they had a battle of the beats…
    FUCKIN SICK….
It made me really realize how much shit Swizz has been behind.
Swizz won the battle with “Take over”..
    pure madness,
But listen to him on the Big Spender remix saying some shit….

But he babbles jibber jabber on a lot of his shit….

    @Haze…
I am pretty sure the underground scene in the south is as strong as the underground scene up here.. Thats not the issue though. Its about what is getting out there and being co-signed. And the worse thing about all this is the overall lack of originality. I can’t tell the difference between lil boosie and hurricane chris…

I totally agree with you on this.

I’m not talking about Swizz as a producer…I’m talking about him as a “rapper”

Swizz can’t rap. Its bad, but the nigga even said that the quality of the rappers out now gave him motivation. He said he would have never thought of rapping on an entire album if DMX LOX and were still around like they used to be.
But if Timberland can come out rapping then I guess Swizz think he should be allowed to also.
Damn… That makes me think of Pete Rocks solo album that came out a lil while ago and the fact that it was pretty hot. It would have been better if he didn’t rap on it but he had some decent joints on there. I gotta dig that one out.

‘Its bad, but the nigga even said that the quality of the rappers out now gave him motivation.’

I have ZERO problems with a non-rapper who can admit to being a non-rapper…and is simply rappin for the fuck/fun of it.

Which is why I give him and Jim Jones props.

He at least admits to not being the best of the best.

    Timbaland…

    on the otherhand…

Goes around pumpin his chest out all the time…

and also can’t rap/sing for shit and half the album is other people rappin/singing.

I do own those Timbaland/Magoo albums doe.

‘Indian Flute’ is my shit. The last really outstanding track from Timbaland IMO?

The Biz whole shtick was ‘comedy’ though…

he wasn’t supposed to be ’serious’, nor did he fake like he was.

Plus, the Biz was down with Kane and them niggaz so he was completely official at the same time.

    OUTKAST

Only group of artists to ’switch up’ their style regardless of the current trend, and then make THAT the trend.

Can rap on any type of beat without it sounding forced and gimicky.

Yeah I have to agree…KAST stayed original and ever changing and Hot all while being Artistic and True… Even with both members going in different directions the music stayed true.

I am torn between Nas and Outkast but I can’t ignore Jay putting an album out every year for about 7 or 8 of em.
But Outkast, to me, has never been irrellevant where as Nas and Jay had periods of being “irrelevant”.
