Quick and Dirty Grammy Wrap Up.

Posted by: willyjsimmons

Only one name to say…

Christina Aguilera!

Her stock just went through the roof.

Now, this is the second time the Grammy folks have picked Christina to do a special performance (remember her jazz diddy she did with Herbie Hancock last year/year before last maybe?)

While that didn't do much for me…

last night she MURDERED it.

But damn if Fantasia wouldn't have MADE IT RAIN. Okay. Enough.

MJB did her thang, and won some awards.  White folks love her know don't they?

Gotta mention the Police.  Very solid set.

The one thing about the show that REALLY bothered me was the sorta canned pairing of artists.

John Legend, John Mayer, and Corrine Bailey Rae?  While they sounded nice…CORNY.  I have to admit John Mayer is one of my least favorite artists right now.  Can't stand him.  Boring.  Reminds me of Johnny Lang…who I also can't stand.  Before I digress…

Smokey, Lionel Richie, and Chris Brown.  Again…why?  And lil chirren crumpin…cute but WHY?  Chris Brown sounded totally out of breath halfway through his performance, but he did his thang none the less.  Boy was MJ reincarnate during that James Brown tribute part deux.  We also got to see MC Danny Ray bring out the cape one final time.  I had man tears.

Red Hot Chili Peppers were understated, but good as usual.

Carrie Underwood sounded beautiful during her parts.  What a song bird.  Watch out Shania, I may have a new secret crush jumpin off.  Naw, who am I kidding.  LUV U SHANIA!

Dixie Chicks cleaned up.  Which segways into Rick Ruben.  Did you count how many times his name was dropped last night?  Jeebus.  Props to a HIPHOP pioneer for doing it MAJOR. (Who also worked with the Chili Peppers!!! He's MAJOR!!!)

JT…eh.  Oh SNAP! Did ya'll know that Prince diss song is being played on the radio now??  Oh yes it is.   That girl he sang wit didn't embarrass herself.(Although I did notice how 'pretty' each of those girls were? These were the 'best' singers out the lot?  REALLY?)

Now…that nigga Ludacris. Please tell me this negro didn't let Oprah's name slip out his mouth.  In the SAME breath as Bill O'Reilly?  Did Chris Bridges really do that?  This nigga get MJB to sing a hook on a sappy song and think he's doing something?  Please remind me again what the first single from his latest album was?  That's right.  A BOOTY SONG.

Zeus knows I can appreciate some booty.  But shut the FUCK up Luda.  Shut UP!  2007 Brenda's Got a Baby, nigga you can fool them white folk with that shit, but don't try it over here man.  We KNOW who you are Luda.  You better stick to those butter slick flows and keep grown folks' name out cha mouth.  I'm TIRED of you.  Nigga has had all this time to get at Oprah on a one-to-one basis, and this negro waits until he wins a Grammy to try and vindicate himself…which by the way…how the FUCK did he win that Grammy?

I guess when they confuse Pharrell's album as one of the best HIPHOP albums of 2006, that's what happens.  Wah, wah, wah, waaaaaaaaaah!!!!!!!!!!

More on Oprah and Barack Obama later.

My bad willyj, I don’t watch award shows. But I can say that I’m proud of Mary J. No matter what, she keeps doing her thing.

As far as Justin Timberlake… :madfu:! This dude DOES not impress me. I tried to watch some bullshit ass performance he did with TI. That wigga is garbage juice.

:laughfu:@Ludacris winning best rap album. I like Luda, but this nigga has yet to make a good album. Who the fuck picks the winners for the Grammys anyway :?:

‘People who ought to know better.’

One of my co-workers said it goes on album sales.

There is no way somebody can tell me that Luda’s last album (I don’t even know the name of that shit, and I’m a Ludacris fan) was better than the Roots or TI’s album. I don’t believe it.

    Nope. It’s industry folks…

That’s why the Grammy’s is supposed to be a big deal cuz it’s their peers voting for the awards. Pharrell? Half that album is some damn R&B. Roots got the shaft. And no Fishscale?

So if Pharrell was nominated, they might as well nominated Fergie and Gnarls Barkley too.

They (country radio) tried to blackball them. But they got all the love last night. Record and Album of the year.

I have listened to a lil bit of that Christina album. But just a lil bit.

How was the production on it? I know she did her thing on vocals.

    That’s where the ‘beef’ starts.

You know how the album was being billed as a ‘throwback’ to the bigband 20’s sound…well the album doesn’t really capture that vibe throughout.

Now, Premo is Premo. The tracks are good by themselves.

I can dig that. I downloaded the album for a friend of mine. She liked the album. That’s all she talked about for a damn near a month.

It’s still on my computer at home, but I can’t hype myself up to listen to it.

    What up peoples ???
All I have to say is Christina, Christina, Christina.
When you go out and get a 20 somnething year old white girl to cover "A MANS WORLD" by james Brown and she kills it the way she did…. priceless. She tore that shit down. I DVR’ed most of the show and just caught some moment here and there but the Grammy seem to really be shedding its conservative rep. They got blacker by the minute from what I saw. But What I remember the most was Christina and the James Brown tribute.
James might have been watching it also seeing as they haven’t buried his ass yet. I thought he was gon make a surprise appearance. I don’t know if Beyonce performed or not but it was a breath of fresh air not to see her on stage for once. Let us miss you baby !!!

And BeYAWNce did perform that song from Dreamgirls.

It was ‘alright’ I guess. Lots of reverb jumpin off though. Dress was kinda sexy, but thats about it.

Everyone forgot about Beyonce after Christina’s performance though.

If Beyonce doesn’t go on a vacation or something soon, she is gonna overexpose herself. Too much of a good thing can turn bad. How many times do we have to look at the"sta-puf" hair and that blank stare and smile before we get tired of her.
But God was on his best shit when he created that woman. That must have been after he kicked his habit because he must have been high when he created me….lol.
    God is my homie though…..
